Our History – serving businesses in Sunderland for 25 years

Situated in the heart of the North East of England, just off the A19, our Company, Sunderland Enterprise Park Management Company (SEP), has played an important role in the regeneration of the land previously reclaimed from heavy industrial use by the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation (TWDC). TWDC was established in 1987 to develop land on the banks of the River Wear. When TWDC was being wound up it formed SEP to ensure the security of the businesses which had now located to the new Sunderland Enterprise Park and to maintain those areas of the Park transferred to it. These areas include the nature reserve on the shores of the River Wear.

The Structure of SEP reflects its Purpose

TWDC chose an unusual structure for the new management company. It is very much like a management company of a block of flats! This reflects the purpose of SEP Management Co Ltd which not only provides security services but deals with the maintenance of any shared areas such as footpaths and steps; landscaping and maintenance of grass and open spaces and is the Eyes and Ears of the Park. In the same way that a good management company looks after the block of apartments for its residents then SEP Management Co Ltd looks after the park for its businesses.

1995 to 2020

Since 1995, SEP has been successfully providing security and landscaping services to businesses and users of Sunderland Enterprise Park helping to ensure that it remains a safe, secure, and environmentally friendly place to do business or to enjoy the retail park. The Enterprise Park is notable for its wide variety of businesses large and small, ranging from light industrial, banking, hospitality, retail, and health.

During our 25-year history, SEP has become an important part of the community whether it be helping the local police, assisting in getting Sunderland fans to the Stadium of Light or as custodian of the environment by, for example, establishing a bee friendly zone called a Pollinator Park.

In this time, we have been using developments in technology to expand our services to businesses on the park. In addition, we are also developing services to extend these benefits for businesses off site as technology continues to open up exciting opportunities.

We are now looking forward to our next 25 years in which we shall continue to work to achieve and maintain a safe and secure environment for businesses.
