Case study: Mitie – Working together for a safer Sunderland Enterprise Park

21 Jul, 2026

Introduction

For more than 17 years, SEP Management and Mitie have worked together to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for businesses operating at Sunderland Enterprise Park.

What began as a successful tender for security services has developed into a long-standing partnership built on trust, communication and a shared commitment to supporting the businesses and people who call the park home.

Mitie, the UK’s leader in facilities management, transformation and compliance, provides a dedicated team of security operatives who work across the park.  They deliver a range of services including security patrols, CCTV monitoring, vacant property checks, alarm response and additional support during key events such as concerts, Sunderland Illuminations and match days.

A partnership that has stood the test of time

The relationship began 17 years ago when Mitie successfully secured the contract to provide security services for Sunderland Enterprise Park. Since then, the partnership has continued to grow, something that is particularly notable in an industry where long-term contracts of this nature are uncommon.

For Terry Brannon, Senior Operations Manager, Business Services, at Mitie, the longevity of the relationship comes down to the strong working partnership between both organisations.

“In the security industry, contracts don’t often continue for this length of time but the relationship we’ve built with SEP has always been based on trust, communication and working together to find the right solutions.

Over the years, there have naturally been discussions and challenges along the way but by working collaboratively with SEP’s General Manager, Angela Rayne and the wider SEP team, we’ve always been able to reach the best outcome.”

More than a security provider

Although the security officers are employed by Mitie, they have become a familiar and valued part of the SEP team.

Terry explained, “Our officers don’t just see themselves as working for Mitie, they see themselves as an extension of the SEP team. They take real pride in looking after the park and supporting the businesses based there.

We consistently receive positive feedback from our officers about the relationship with SEP, which says a lot about the culture and partnership that has been created.”

The dedicated team provides support throughout the week, including daytime cover, night shifts and weekend patrols. Their role goes beyond traditional security, helping to create confidence and reassurance for the businesses located across the park.

Supporting the SEP community

A secure environment is an important factor for businesses when choosing where to locate and operate and the collaboration between SEP and Mitie helps provide peace of mind for occupiers.

Through proactive patrols, CCTV monitoring and rapid response to incidents, the team plays an important role in maintaining a safe and well-managed business environment.

The partnership also provides flexibility, with additional security support available for events and activities taking place across the park, ensuring businesses and visitors continue to feel supported.

A relationship focused on the future

After 17 years of working together, SEP and Mitie continue to share the same goal: providing the best possible environment for the businesses based at Sunderland Enterprise Park.

Terry added, “I’ve worked in the security industry for 25 years and can honestly say this has been one of the best relationships I’ve experienced. The way SEP and Mitie work together is a great example of what can be achieved when two organisations have the same commitment and approach.”

Angela Rayne, Office Manager at SEP Management, said, “The relationship we have with Mitie and it’s team ensures we provide a safe and secure environment for the enterprise park and wider community.  We truly value their support and look forward to continuing over partnership over the years to come.”

Together, SEP Management and Mitie continue to demonstrate how a collaborative approach can deliver real value, helping businesses at Sunderland Enterprise Park operate with confidence in a secure, supportive and professionally managed environment.
