Community Focused
SEP is far more than a provider of security and landscape services – although that is an essential part of what we do – we are the Eyes and Ears of the Park and its surrounding areas.
We have our cameras and our patrols in the Park that alert us to any problems that might be arising which could cause difficulty for the users of the Park and we can communicate that information to our clients. For the Park and the surrounding areas, we can pass on information on issues such as water leaks, electricity cuts and road closures.
We are a point of contact with the Police and can pass on details of potential or actual incidents both from and to the Police for the benefit of the users of the Park and surrounding areas and we also have lines of communication with Sunderland Council. We are in partnership with Mitie who operate nationally and alert us to any security issues which are occurring elsewhere in the country, but which may go on to affect our area.
Last, but certainly not least, we have our clients who keep us informed of problems that they have become aware of so that we can inform the Park as a whole, and if necessary, our clients off the Park.
Please keep an eye on our social media accounts and our website for information on the situation on the Park and please do alert us if you become aware of anything that should be shared with other Park users.
Here are few examples of why we are the Eyes and Ears of the Park:
- The park had a period where the levels of anti-social behaviour/criminal damage were spiking. Incidents such as broken windows, damage to bus shelters and clients signage making the park unattractive for the users and potential clients.
The SEP security team worked with the Police and 27 local youths were identified and cautioned. Working with the Police and local schools we were able to ban the youths from entering the park and we closely monitor any increase of youths on site.
- Our Community Police officers regularly attend site and inform us when known local offenders are back in circulation. We know the profile of these offenders and whether they carry out shoplifting, fire start, bike theft etc. therefore we can inform the Police if they are monitored causing an incident on site. We also assist the Police when they are searching for offenders by following the descriptions given.
- The control room operator noted a lady who looked as if she were being pushed into a vehicle against her will. We monitored the situation on CCTV and took note of the vehicle registration number. We then received a telephone call from the Police who had received reports of a lady being abducted. We gave the Police the vehicle registration number and they we able to pick up the vehicle in Newcastle by a number plate recognition camera and the lady was then safe.
